Ladies Auxiliary
Palenville Fire Department
The Palenville Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary was formed in 1942 with 71 Charter Members and 3 Honorary Members who had helped in the formation of the organization. The purpose of forming the Ladies Auxiliary was to aid the men in their work and to help with extra fund raising for equipment and maintenance of the fire hall. Over the years, the Auxiliary has built it's own reputation for fine dinners and breakfasts for the public, as well as well-done catered affairs at the fire hall. Some of the events have included weddings, anniversaries, and banquets for other organizations. The Auxiliary had published two cookbooks which have featured many of their special desserts.
Many members of the local auxiliary are members of the Greene County Ladies Auxiliary, the Hudson Valley Ladies Auxiliary, and the Auxiliary of the Fireman's Association of the State of New York. It has been our priviledge to have our members serve in many offices of the sectional Auxiliaries and to host those groups for quarterly meetings over the years.
For over 70 years, the PFD Ladies Auxiliary have assisted the members of the Fire Department. Wheter on a balmy summer afternoon with a cool drink or a mid-winter fire with coffee or soup, the members have come to rely on their Auxiliary. We continue to march proudly with our Ladies Auxiliary in several parades annually, typically capturing trophies.
The members of the Palenville Fire Department are eternally grateful to our Auxiliary members, past and present.
